On Monday, there is a cumulative assessment on realism and regionalism. Please make sure you are familiar with qualities of each. The information is on previous blogs, if you have misplaced your handouts. The assessment will consist of multiple choice and short responses. The material for which which you need to be responsible are the short stories we have read in class: The White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce, The Outcasts of Poker Flat by Bret Harte, A Wagner Matinee by Willa Cather, The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and the last piece of Romantic writing we covered, Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Make sure you know titles and authors and accompany literary elements, which means characters, plot, tone, setting, dialogue, theme and point of view. Also, don't forget the short story vocabulary. This will simply be a matching.
HOMEWORK: prepare for the above, as it's going in the 30% category!
And for Tuesday: please read through page 24 of Edith Wharton's Ethan Frome.
